In Korean skincare routines, toner plays a vital role, bridging the gap between cleansing and moisturizing. It might seem like just an extra step, but toners in Korean skincare provide multiple benefits. Before going into the best selling Korean toners, I want to revisit the benefits of adding toner to your daily skincare routine.
1. Hydration
Korean toners are often packed with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and botanical extracts. These ingredients help to replenish moisture that might have been stripped away during cleansing, leaving the skin feeling fresh and plump.
2. Balancing Skin’s pH
After cleansing, the skin’s natural pH level can be disrupted, especially with harsher cleansers. Korean toners are designed to restore the skin’s ideal pH balance, which is usually slightly acidic (around 4.5 to 5.5). This helps maintain the skin’s barrier, keeping it healthy and less prone to irritation or dryness.
3. Exfoliation
Some toners in Korean skincare contain mild exfoliating ingredients, like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), which help remove dead skin cells. This promotes smoother, brighter skin by encouraging cell turnover, without the harshness of more abrasive scrubs. Although I personally am not a big fan of using exfoliation, it may appeal to some users so I still mention this.
4. Soothing and Calming
Many Korean toners include calming ingredients such as centella asiatica (Cica), green tea, or aloe vera. These ingredients help to reduce redness, irritation, or inflammation, making toners an excellent choice for sensitive or acne-prone skin.
5. Boosting Absorption
Toners help prep the skin to better absorb subsequent products like serums and moisturizers. By ensuring that the skin is hydrated and balanced, toners create a better “canvas” for these products to penetrate and work more effectively.
6. Refining Pores
Some toners contain ingredients that help minimize the appearance of pores. This can give the skin a smoother, more even texture. Ingredients like witch hazel or niacinamide are often included for this purpose.
7. Brightening
Certain toners are formulated with ingredients like vitamin C, licorice, or arbutin, which can help brighten the complexion and reduce the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation, or dullness.
8. Antioxidant Protection
Many Korean toners are rich in antioxidants, like green tea or bamboo extract, which help protect the skin from environmental stressors, like pollution or UV damage. This can contribute to overall skin health and prevent premature aging.

Besides the above top selling toners, I also want to introduce the toner that I am actually using daily: Sulwhasoo Essential Comfort Balancing Water is for dry and sensitive skin. It is lightweight, watery, and feeling very refreshing with its lightly-scented properties. Simply pour a teaspoonful on into your palms and pat lightly into your face and neck. Vogue recently featured an exciting list of 14 Korean toners in this article and I was glad to find my daily item from that list. So I use this toner with its combi, Sulwhasoo Essential Comfort Balancing Emulsion (this is lotion), every morning, and noticed visible plumpness on my face. Sulwhasoo is a very well-known and respected brand in South Korean beauty market. I got this set from my cousin when visiting Korea and thank him whenever using them!
